The CDRC in York, PA was once offered a free plastic recycling service but due to overwhelming demand, the plant will now charge its customers.

The plant first accepted plastic waste from commercial and industry sources, using proprietary processes to recycle the material into building products. The plant also accepted residential plastic waste for free but did not advertise the service. Once word got out, the plant was quickly overwhelmed by demand.

"It really did shock us," said Ross Gibby, president of CDRC USA. "Every day, we were seeing more and more material coming in. On the one hand, it's great to be appreciated. On the other hand, it had become bigger than we expected."

Starting next week, CRDC will begin charging $2 per 33-gallon bag to recycle residential plastic waste.
