University of Maine Unveils World’s Largest 3D Printer Capable of Eco-Friendly Home Manufacturing

The world’s biggest 3D printer has been unveiled at the University of Maine and offers eco-friendly and cost-effective opportunities in manufacturing with the ability to print objects big enough to build homes.

The world’s biggest 3D printer has been unveiled at the University of Maine and offers eco-friendly and cost-effective opportunities in manufacturing with the ability to print objects big enough to build homes.

The machine, the Factory of the Future 1.0, has been built at the University of Maine. The printer combines AI with robotics operations and high-performance computing. The University plans to show how the printer can print nearly entire homes, resulting in a lower carbon footprint.

If a build is deemed unstable, there is no loss of materials as the 3D printed parts can be deconstructed and used again in another printing.

The printer can produce objects as large as 96 feet long and 32 feet wide. The printer’s production speed of 500 lbs of material per hour means it can create houses at a good, steady rate.
