College Students Compete By Helping the Environment

Around 300 U.S. and Canadian campuses are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but that has not stopped them from recycling, donating and composting 48.6 million pounds of waste and removing more than 380 million plastic bottles from waste streams during the RecycleMania 2020 competition.

This year’s competition engaged 4.5 million students and staff, and prevented the release of 70,875 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent into the atmosphere, which is equal to avoiding the annual emissions from 15,047 cars.
