Secondhand Shopping: Ikea to Open its first Secondhand Store
September 23, 2020
Swedish retailer Ikea has pledged to become a fully circular business by 2030. Its sustainability strategy includes inspiring its customers to live a more sustainable life at home striving for resource and energy independence and creating a better life for the people and communities impacted by its business.
Following this mission, the company will open its first secondhand store in Sweden later this year where they will sell refurbished furniture and home furnishings.
The new store will be located in the ReTuna shopping mall in Eskilstuna, which is the world's first secondhand shopping centre.
“If we are going to reach our sustainability goals we need to challenge ourselves and test our ideas in practice,” said Jonas Carlehed, Ikea Sweden's sustainability director.
In 2019, IKEA introduced its first pilot project, where it allowed customers to rent furniture as part of its circular model.
