Norfolk, Va., has joined the Recycling Perks incentive program to increase the city’s recycling.
Beginning this month, Norfolk residents can collect points each time they recycle and then use those points to claim rewards at local restaurants and retailers, according to a news release.
Smithfield, Va.-based Recycling Perks began operations in 2011 as a program promoting curbside recycling participation. It currently is available to about 400,000 households. The program provides points based on how often the resident’s recycling container is placed at the curb for pickup.
The program should have a significant impact on recycling rates in the region, said Recycling Perks President Bill Dempsey.
