Displaced DSNY Trucks Relocate to East Village

As the City of New York Department of Sanitation (DSNY) continues its search for a new place for a garage, parking spaces in lower Manhattan are being set aside for sanitation trucks. And local residents are not happy.

According to a CBS New York report, residents and business owners first noticed signs blocking off one side of 10th Street for half the block between First and Second Avenues for DSNY use only. Now, residents are complaining about the lineup of the trucks and the odors they emit.

Back in May, Mayor Bill de Blasio relocated trucks from Queens after residents complained there. He also announced the plan to build a new DSNY garage to replace the old one.

CBS New York has more details:

Garbage trucks that used to be parked during the overnight hours near the Hudson River are now in the East Village.

Angry residents say they are lined up and smelling up the neighborhood.

“It’s a new problem,” Tom Walker said. “Now, we have garbage trucks because they can’t park where they used to park.”
