All New York City apartment buildings larger than 10 units will be eligible to participate in the “e-cycleNYC program, which will provide buildings with a free service to pick up and recycle unwanted electronics. Options include storage bins, room clean-outs and building events, depending on the size and type of building, according to a city news release.
In the first phase the aim is to find buildings to enroll in the program, which is expected to begin in several months. The city said once the program is under way it will represent the most comprehensive electronics recycling program offered by any municipality in the country.
Also Fresno, Calif.-based ERI will be the city’s vendor to accept electronics from residents at the New York Department of Sanitation’s electronic disposal events.
The e-cycle program will receive funding from several electronics manufacturers.
