A company has proposed an oilfield special waste facility south of Belfield, N.D., that would be the 12th landfill of its kind in North Dakota.
The facility would would accept drilling cuttings and mud and would likely collect the waste from wells in a 50-mile radius, said Chris Kreger, an IHD Environmental representative who’s managing the project.
Environmental Solutions LLC, a company created for the landfill project, is the owner and applicant.
Kreger will discuss the project when his company hosts an informational meeting Monday for citizens. Kreger will discuss the project’s construction and operation. The North Dakota Department of Health will approve the permit unless serious concerns arise during the meeting or are submitted in writing by Oct. 20, Division of Waste Management Director Scott Radig said.
Environmental Solutions owns 80 acres of land 7.6 miles off Highway 85 south of Belfield, where they intend to build the 17.5-acre landfill. That land was rezoned from agricultural to industrial in 2012, according to Stark County Commission meeting minutes.
