The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Portland, is seeking comments on its hazardous waste business assistance services as well as the state's Toxic Use and Hazardous Waste Reduction program. The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), Silver Spring, Md., is calling for reports on research and innovations in solid waste on topics such as single stream recycling, bioreactors and landfill management. John William “Bill” Estes died Sept. 27. Estes took over his father's businesses, Garbage Service Co. And Arizona Service Co., Phoenix and Tucson, Ariz., in 1937, and in 1954, Estes launched the Estes Service Co., Fort Worth, Texas.
