With the assistance of the World Bank's International Finance Corporation (IFC), Seychelles will be building a waste-to-energy facility to eliminate an expected 80 percent of waste. The nation of islands plans to have the facility built in the next two years, with phase one being completed in 8 months.
Officials believe the idea will be most beneficial for two reasons. The first is a means to leverage the price of energy in the country by providing a more readily available supply. The second reason is it will help to prevent landfill fires which are a current struggle for the country.
