Vestas, a wind turbine company with a site in Iowa, is working to divert turbine blades from landfills. Typically turbines only have 25-30 year operational lives and are sent to landfills afterward. This company is collecting blades from across the country giving them a second life. Shredding each blade up into smaller pieces, they are then used as an additive in cement. The program manager for the recycling program at Vestas believes their current process has a lot of potential future uses.
