For the first time the city of Omaha may have to start paying for recycling to be processed.
"So what we're looking at here is actually chaos," Firstar Fiber CEO Dale Gubbels said, standing in front of a pile of trash, "And that chaos comes with a price. It has to be separated."
Firstar Fiber sorts and sells recycled materials from around Omaha. Under the current contract, the city of Omaha makes money back from the company -- hundreds of thousands of dollars each year. However, Firstar Fiber hasn't been able to pay in 2015, owing the city $400,000.
