Residents in Glasgow, Scottland are getting new recycling bins next month to further sort recyclables.

Knightswood homes that have individual bins will be among the first to get new, grey recycling bins intended for plastics, metals, cartons, and film. This will leave blue recycling bins to be used only for paper, cards, and cardboard.

This new scheme is going into effect thanks to a £21M initiative from the Scottish Government to improve recycling. After the new bins are rolled out in Knightswood, the bins will move into over areas north of the city and then to Southside later this year.

“Introducing a new bin for metal and plastic containers for curbside collections is a big part of our plans to improve recycling in Glasgow,” said Ruairi Kelly, city convener for neighborhood services.

“The new bin will make it easier and more convenient for households to recycle a much wider range of materials at home and improve the quality of the materials we collect.”
