New Orleans, Recycle Dat! on Pace to Surpass 2023 Mardi Gras Recycling Numbers

With Mardi Gras underway, the bead clean-up is in full motion as the city of New Orleans, partnering with New Orleans & Company, has announced a hot start for the citywide Recycle Dat! sustainability initiative.

With Mardi Gras underway, the bead clean-up is in full motion as the City of New Orleans, partnering with New Orleans & Company, has announced a hot start for the citywide Recycle Dat! sustainability initiative.

During Mardi Gras’ first major weekend of parades, volunteers and recycling staff collected 1,828 pounds of glass, 1,434 pounds of aluminum cans, and 1,462 pounds of Mardi Gras beads. This led to successfully diverting over two tons of waste from landfills after those two days.

Those numbers put the city clean-up on track to surpass 2023’s inaugural year of Recycle Dat! During the 2023 Carnival season, New Orleans recycled more than 14,000 pounds of glass, aluminum, and Mardi Gras beads.
