The city of Madison, Wis. Will be conducting audits of resident’s recycling carts looking for contamination and unwanted materials.

The city of Madison, Wis. Will be conducting audits of resident’s recycling carts looking for contamination and unwanted materials.

Residents may see officials poking through their recycling carts as the Street Division Crews will check carts for things that don’t belong. The city is conducting this research to find contamination sources and help educate and alert residents about what can and can’t be recycled.

If crews find contamination within the carts, they will leave a card explaining the issue and the guilty party will be responsible for removing the specific items from their cart.

Carts identified with contamination will not be emptied until the issue is addressed.
