House Bill 1454 Threatens Dalton Landfill Opening in New Hampshire

A new piece of legislation that would prevent Casella from opening a new landfill is making its way through New Hampshire legislature.

House Bill 1454 would prevent the company from meeting requirements at the proposed Dalton Landfill. The location is located fewer than 3,000 feet from a lake, and there is concern about contamination. A study completed by Casella shows that groundwater flows through the site at 6,000 feet on an annual basis.

If the Dalton Landfill project fails to go forward, Casella has indicated that the nearest landfill is more than 200 miles away - a Waste Management site located in Norridgewock, Maine.
