An Ohio State student combined her love for fashion and sustainability and co-founded the Students for Sustainable Fashion organization.
Molly Hoskin, a third-year student at Ohio State University, has a focus on environment, economy, development, and sustainability but has a passion for fashion and wanted to see all her interests come together. After not finding a club that met all those topics, she took it upon herself to make one.
The Students for Sustainable Fashion organization was created in March but recently held its first meeting for the 2023-2024 school year back in August.
Hoskin serves as the president of the Students for Sustainable Fashion (SFSF) club. She says that, while plans for the club were made in February, it gained traction at Ohio State’s 2023 Sustainability Fair and Earth Day Festival.
“Socially, I think people are conscious of sustainability, and they just might not know how to be more sustainable,” Hoskin said.
Since SFSF takes place in a college setting, Hoskin and Audrey Cash, SFSF vice president, are bringing in students to share the club’s mission and encourage fashion-centric sustainability efforts that can be implemented on and off campus.
“If we educate people now, while we’re still young people, then for our whole lives we’ll know about that and be able to pass it on to other people,” Cash said.
The SFSF plans to put on community-based events and workshops where students can learn about sustainable fashion and meet others who share the same interests.
