Earth-Friendly Packaging Company Mushroom Packaging Announces Virtual Tour of New Facilities

GREEN ISLAND, N.Y.--Mushroom® Packaging announced a virtual tour of its new production facility based in New York's capital region, producing high volumes of earth-friendly, ocean-safe packaging to replace high polluting single-use plastics.

A division of Ecovative, the mycelium technology company, Mushroom Packaging's secret to producing sustainable foam alternatives comes from the fibrous 'roots' of mushrooms. Combined with plant fibers left over from agriculture, the mycelium produces beautiful home-compostable packaging parts, with all-natural inputs, and requiring little energy to produce. When properly disposed of, they return to the ecosystem as soil nutrients.

With the rise of e-commerce retail, and as public environmental awareness grows, demand for sustainable packaging has increased sharply. Mushroom Packaging has also expanded quickly, building and commissioning a new 20,000 square foot production facility in Green Island, NY. This additional capacity is serving a growing list of clients shipping their products with Mushroom Packaging, including the popular Good Chemistry line of fragrances and candles sold at select Target stores across the United States, as well as sustainable packaging awareness partnerships with A New Earth Project, the Plastic Pollution Coalition, and others.

To mark the end of Plastic Free July, Mushroom Packaging is offering a free virtual tour of its new facility, both to provide a look at how mycelium packaging parts are grown in one week, and to demonstrate what a scaled solution to single-use plastic pollution looks like.

"We are excited to offer a glimpse at everything we've been building to reduce plastic pollution and serve a fast-growing list of customers, as we continue serving our existing clients of nearly a decade. There is so much to share, including new technologies that accelerate prototyping and ensure optimal fit and minimized shipping costs." — Meghan Olson, Mushroom Packaging's Director of Commercialization.

Plastic Free July provides resources and ideas to help people reduce their daily single-use plastic waste, with more than 100 million participants in 190 countries. According to the UN, almost half a billion tons of plastic are produced every year, roughly half of it going to single-use applications.
