Plainville, Mass., is the latest community to look into installing solar panels on a closed landfill.
The Sun Chronicle has the story:
Selectmen Monday night voted unanimously to sign a 20-year payment in lieu of taxes or PILOT agreement with Soltage, an energy firm which plans to develop a solar field on the 30-acre landfill off Interstate 495.
The landfill property, owned by Allied Waste, closed as a trash disposal site years ago. It was a chief revenue source for the town, leading to several tight budget years, and was a site where the town was able to dump its refuse at no charge.
