Henrico County, Virginia is leasing two acres of Springfield Road Landfill and plans to install solar panels on the property.

Officials have agreed to pay $1 per year for the next 30 years, a move that will lower electricity rates. Taxpayers are expected to save between $600,000 and $700,000 in electricity costs over the next three decades.

BrightSuite, a subsidiary of Dominion Energy, has reached an agreement with the county to design, install and maintain the 349-kilowatt system, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
