Residents in Moore, Okla. Will Vote on a Curbside Recycling Program This Week

Residents of Moore, Oklahoma will have another chance to vote on a curbside recycling proposal this week. If passed, Moore will begin to prepare customers on the program details and roll-out process.

If passed, the program may begin within four to six months of the election day.

The initial rate for bi-weekly residential curbside recycling will be $3.90 per month, with a 2% increase each year for years two through five. However, citizens have expressed concerns that Republic, the company providing the service, reserves the right to raise the cost above the 2% annual increase listed in the ballot.

Moore city government promises that the resident rate will not exceed the proposed 2% rate and the rest if the potential costs will be negotiated by the city.

The program will be with Republic for five years, at which point the city council can adjust the program or outright eliminate it.

In 2016, Moore voters refused a similar proposal by a slight margin.
