Republic Opens Recycling Facility in Texas

Republic Services Inc. has opened a new material recovery facility (MRF) in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Phoenix-based Republic dedicated the North Texas Recycling Complex, a 90,000 sq.-ft. facility that is Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certified. The facility will serve Dallas, Denton, Parker and Tarrant counties. Republic said in a news release that the new MRF represents a significant investment in the company’s local recycling capabilities.

The new MRF will process plastics 1 through 7, paper, cardboard, glass, aluminum and other materials. The facility uses an automated supervisory system that allows operators to continually monitor the sorting process and move 35 tons of material an hour.

The MRF employs about 40, and Republic overall employs more than 1,170 in the north Texas area.

“This facility will provide our customers and community with more efficient, clean and safe recycling options, and much needed capacity," said Craig Mikolajchak, general manager of Republic Services in Fort Worth.
