Windex recently announced the launch of the first-ever 100 percent ocean plastic bottle for Windex with Vinegar, a first for a major home cleaning product. The Windex with Vinegar Ocean Plastic bottle marks a permanent commitment by Windex to help address the problem of plastic pollution entering the oceans, which according to estimations by the World Economic Forum will contain more plastic than fish by 2050.

Made from plastic waste collected within 30 miles of an ocean or waterways leading to the sea in countries that lack effective, formal, community-based waste collection, the Windex with Vinegar Ocean Plastic bottle offers consumers the opportunity to make more sustainable choices at home.

On April 4, Windex unveiled its efforts to stem the tide of marine-bound plastic pollution in a more public fashion through a special window display at the Bloomingdale’s 59th Street flagship store in New York City. The window display depicts an aquarium filled with sea life made completely out of recycled plastic.

Windex also unveiled the Windex with Vinegar Ocean Plastic bottle as part of the “Good for the Globe” shop. The Good for the Globe shop brings environmental awareness and social advocacy to Bloomingdale’s through The Carousel, a rotating pop-up shop driven by culturally relevant themes with merchandise hand-selected by guest curators and brought to life with activations and events.

In addition to the events on April 4, the Bloomingdale’s partnership includes a Bloomingdale’s bag made from recycled plastic (gift with purchase), a limited-edition Windex bottle sold only at Bloomingdale’s, which shoppers can customize in honor of their favorite beaches, and an interactive, virtual reality experience. The limited-edition bags and Windex with Vinegar Ocean Plastic bottles also are available to Bloomingdale’s shoppers at the SoHo, New York, Los Angeles Century City and San Francisco Union Square locations while supplies last.

The Windex with Vinegar Ocean Plastic bottle is a continuation of SC Johnson’s commitment to environmental solutions, which includes the shift to 100 percent post-consumer recycled plastic for all Windex trigger bottles in 2015. By 2025, 100 percent of SC Johnson’s plastic containers will be either reusable, recyclable or compostable, while post-consumer recycled plastic in the company’s packaging will triple.

Starting this fall, 2-liter (2L) refill bottles of Windex Original and Windex Disinfectant Cleaner Multi-Surface Citrus will use 100 percent post-consumer recycled materials. Additionally, plans are underway to launch a 100 percent ocean plastic Windex with Vinegar 2L refill bottle and 100 percent Social Ocean Plastic Windex with Vinegar bottle with Plastic Bank by fall of 2019. The 100 percent Social Ocean Plastic Windex with Vinegar bottle will source its recycled plastic from Haiti, the Philippines and Indonesia by creating a market for individuals living in poverty to exchange ocean plastic for money.
