20 Companies Produce Over Half of Single Use Plastic Waste, According to Plastic Waste Makers

Single use plastics are made almost exclusively from fossil fuels. With some of them difficult to recycle, they end up creating global waste.   

According to new research from the Plastic Waste Makers index, 20 companies are responsible for producing 55 percent of the single-use plastic waste in the world and driving the planet’s climate crisis.  

Eleven of the companies are based in Asia, four in Europe, three in North America, one in Latin America, and one in the Middle East.   

Australia leads a list of countries for generating the most single-use plastic waste on a per capita basis and ExxonMobil is the greatest single-use plastic waste polluter in the world.
