Ohio Considers New Landfill

Danielle Jackson

Columbus — Amid protest from environmental groups, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is considering plans for a new landfill in northern Tuscarawas County that would handle up to 3,100 tons per day, or a total of 74.3 million cubic yards of trash.

The Ridge Landfill has received preliminary approval from the EPA, but environmental groups have collected more than 13,000 signatures petitioning Ohio Governor Bob Taft and the Ohio EPA to block the 350-acre site.
