Dirty Dialing

Residents of muscatine, iowa, phoning L&M Waste Systems for collection services may find they are offered a different service entirely. Thanks to a phone company mix up, the number for the garbage hauler listed in the 2006-07 edition of the Yellow Book instead connects callers to a phone sex hotline, blurring the line between trash and just plain trashy.

“Our toll-free number was disconnected more than a year ago,” said L&M Waste Systems General Manager Ann Meier, speaking to a local paper. “Apparently it's been reassigned.”

Residents can still reach L&M at the company's general offices number, which is correctly listed in the Yellow Book. The resulting conversation may prove less interesting, but will not cost $2.99 a minute.
