WM's High Acres Landfill Draws Odor Complaints

Fresh Air for the Eastside, a citizen group formed to address odors at Waste Management's High Acres Landfill in Fairport, NY, is fighting against operations as trash from nearby NYC is brought in via train.

The group currently has two lawsuits pending against the company. Residents say both methane gas odors and trash odors permeate their neighborhoods.

The federal complaint against says that“(Waste Management) is also causing an imminent and substantial endangerment to health or the environment as a result of its past and present handling, storage, treatment, transportation, or disposal of solid waste because of continued odors and landfill gas emissions impacting the community."
