Vermont Considers Options Once State's Only Landfill is Full

Vermont's only landfill is filling up fast, and the future of solid waste in the state is up in the air.

The landfill, nicknamed "Mount Casella," after operators Casella Waste Systems, spans 129 acres. Following the opening of a new cell in December, it only has 22 years left before it is full.

It could expand one final time, which would include the excavation of an old dump site, but questions remain about what will happen after the end of its life.
