The Layman's Guide to the Landfill

Here's a great overview of landfill issues in Slate's Green Lantern. The piece glosses over landfill-gas-to-energy, flow control, and some other issues of interest to us industry types, but it's a great read nevertheless. Most interesting to me is the data comparing the total number of U.S. "dumps" in 1986 (7,683) and the number of U.S. landfills in 2009 (1,908).

It should come as no surprise that NSWMA's Chaz Miller, an award-winning Waste Age columnist and regular contributor, is cited as one of the key sources for the piece.
