The Kauai Landfill ‘Conundrum’ Could Quickly Become A ‘Public Health Hazard’

The Hawaiian island of Kauai is witnessing the last breaths of its long-standing landfill in Kekaha. With this landfill's life coming to an end in the next five years, residents and government officials of the island are desperately searching for the next landfill site. A typical landfill can take around ten years to construct, putting the islanders in a particularly tricky position.

 

Officials are exploring and researching several solutions to address the time crunch the island is under, however, moving forward with the next site is of utmost importance.
