Remediation of Excessive Methane at Francis Farm Landfill Nears Completion

Work to decrease groundwater seepage and methane at the Francis Farm landfill in Haywood County, North Carolina is nearing an end.

The landfill began operations in 1973 and did not have a liner. The 28-acre property, which is located near a creek, has seen years of work to remediate groundwater contamination. 

The county has also stepped up monitoring of methane, which was at excessive levels.
