Promontory Point Resources Seeks Permit for Hazardous Waste

Promontory Point Resources is seeking a Class V landfill permit from Utah's Department of Environmental Quality to move contaiminated soil from superfund sites to its landfill.

The application states the demand for excavated soil disposal to be in the "range of 250,000 to 350,000 tons per year."

The source of the soil of controversial. Some sites are embattled in lawsuits with the Department of Justice.

Hunter’s Point Naval Shipyard is allegedly one such site. Tetra Tech EC, the company tasked with cleaning up radioactive waste at the shipyard, "faked tests of soils in a way that threatened to send radiologically contaminated soils to landfills not equipped to safely store that type of waste," according to the Standard-Examiner.
