The value of returned purchases in 2021 totalled more than half a trillion dollars. So, what happens to these items once they are return?

That sweater that isn't your style might have ended up in a landfill.  And it was between two and five times more likely to be returned if it was an online purchase.

It all depends on the store procedure fo handling returns. Unopened items may make their way back to shelves, but retailers throw away at least a quarter of their returns.
