Despite reservations, Orange County commissioners gave their approval Tuesday to an Apopka-area landfill expansion.
Commissioners voted 6-1 to allow Hubbard Construction Co. to convert its 220-acre site from a construction landfill to what's known as a Class III landfill, which can accept recyclable and reusable materials including paper, plastic and wood.
Class III landfills can also accept processed tires and asbestos, but Hubbard has agreed not to take asbestos.
