Erosion Unveils Old Landfills with Toxic Waste in England

More than 1,200 landfills line the coast of England, a country that has more than 20,000 landfills.

The landfills among the shoreline are eroding causing lead, asbestos, plastics and chemical contaminants to slide into the ocean. Some landfill sites are classified as Unesco world heritage sites, which means "no active interaction" will be taken to reinforce the shoreline against erosion.

Officials often remove pieces of solid waste from the beach, some of which have been hazardous materials.
