Baxter County Opposes Landfill Reopening

Baxter County, Ark. Quorum Court has unanimously decided the fate of a landfill property.

The group opposed the reopening, citing the "potential harm to the environment." Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) is interested in acquiring and operating the landfill.

Officials expect the debate about the landfill's fate to continue at the state level with the Arkansas Division of Environmental Quality (ADEQ). A groundwater report found mercury, arsenic and other pollutants at the site.
