As Southern Services Landfill Fills Up, WM Looks to Expand

WM is seeking to expand Southern Services Landfill, which until September 2022 accepted 90 percent of Nashville's construction and demolition waste.

The company is currently appealing a denied proposal to expand the site 17 acres, which would give it another 10 to 12 years. As a result, WM stopped accepting waste from outside contractors.

Local contractors are concerned that costs are going up now that they have to look elsewhere for disposal. With Nashville's Zero Waste Master Plan in the works, a landfill expansion would give the city time to plan solutions.
