An Estimated $2.8 Million is Needed to Extinguish Moody Landfill Fire

Early estimates from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) state it will cost at least $2.8 million to extinguish the Moody Landfill blaze.

The fire, which started in November 2022, has been smoldering underground since it began. The agency's emergency response funds will be used to put out the fire. The EPA can recover the costs through enforcement actions against any responsible parties.
