Wintersville, Ohio partnered with Interstate Waste Services to give out free turkeys and ham to community members earlier this week.

Wintersville, Ohio partnered with Interstate Waste Services to give out free turkeys and ham to community members earlier this week.

“If we can brighten their day by putting a meal on the table for them and some people this is the only meal they might have around the holidays,” Wintersville Mayor Mike Petrella said.

Petrella said this partnership and initiative was a way to give back to the community.

Interstate Waste Services and Wintersville originally were going to give out 50 turkeys and 50 hams, but the demand was so overwhelming that those numbers were increased to 100 turkeys and hams.

“Just to see the smiles and the blessings from some people,” Interstate Waste Services Executive Vice President David Cieply said. “One lady was actually hugging the ham and crying.”
