Adrian Gonzales, a driver for Nexus Disposal in Houston, won the Mack Driving Skills Safety Challenge, a two-day event that the truck manufacturer held last week at WasteExpo in Atlanta.

Brian Kearns of A&B Kearns Trucking and Stone in Culpeper, Va., came in second. Eddie Plummer of J&E Recycling in Fredericksburg, Va., and John Townsend of Republic Services in Carnegie, Pa., tied for third.

The contest featured a series of seven events — including a pre-trip inspection and reversing — during which participants were asked to display safe driving skills using a Mack TerraPro truck. The contest area was designed to emulate an actual job site.

Show attendees with a valid commercial driver’s license were eligible to participate.

Mack conducts the contest each year at WasteExpo.
