What happens when you mix Manhattan’s first distillery since prohibition with a local farm and a non-profit aiming to end food waste?

You get a limited-edition sustainable basil-infused vodka. For the first time ever Our/New York, the first distillery in Manhattan since prohibition, is collaborating with Rethink Food to launch a limited-edition sustainable basil-infused vodka, just in time for Earth Day.

With the help of Brooklyn-based urban farm Square Roots, the small batch, high-quality vodka uses leftover basil sourced from New York City to infuse a gentle flavor to the spirit.

In New York City specifically, about 3.9 million tons of wasted food ends up in landfills each year and 20% of this waste was generated by restaurants and caterers, per NYC Food Policy.

This collaboration shines a light on how New Yorkers can come together to repurpose otherwise perishable ingredients into new products.
