Ahead of the gift-giving season, the Kent County Department of Public Works (DPW) is reminding people to dispose of old electronics properly.

People are preparing to upgrade their electronics and will need a way to properly dispose of older devices. They can’t be put in traditional recycling bins. Instead, they should be taken to special drop-off locations, and luckily the DPW offers several locations for proper device disposal in Kent County, Mich.

“We know Kent County residents may be replacing electronic items after Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, and it’s important to properly recycle or dispose of their old items to protect our community and our environment,” said Katelyn Kikstra, waste reduction educator at the DPW. “The DPW has a wealth of resources available for residents who have hard-to-dispose-of items so we can keep harmful materials out of landfills.”

DPW also reminds the community that working electronics can be donated to charities or sold.
