A foul smell is wafting across parts of north St. Louis County this weekend and it's coming from the smoldering Bridgeton Landfill.
"It's horrible," Kirbi Pemberton said. She caught a whiff of the stench as she was driving home to nearby Maryland Heights.
"It's just obnoxious, it makes you sick to your stomach, headaches," Pemberton said.
Crews are installing parts to improve the Bridgeton Landfill's gas extraction system. The landfill has been smoldering beneath the surface since 2010 and a spokesman says the area where crews are working is particularly active.
