From our sister publication, American City & County, comes this report on the Occupy Wall Street crackdowns in Los Angeles and Philadelphia. The piece notes that protesters in Los Angeles left behind almost 30 tons of trash, including abandoned tents and mattresses. Meanwhile, it took 29 Philadelphia sanitation workers a total of 108 hours to clear 27 tons of trash from the protest site in that city.
Officials in both cities say the collected material will be landfilled. A shame, since an estimated 99 percent of it is recyclable.
