Harvest Power Partners with Two Hotels on Florida Resort Food Waste Program

Harvest Power is partnering with the Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott to recycle food waste generated at the Grande Lakes Orlando 500-acre luxury resort facility in Florida.

The Waltham, Mass.-based Harvest Power said in a news release the food waste recovery program also includes the resort’s existing sustainability programs.

Harvest Power provides an end-to-end food waste processing solution for the resort. It did a full assessment of current operational procedures, conducted training programs for the staff, provided special organic waste collection containers, bilingual signage and coordination of waste transportation to Harvest’s local Energy Garden, or anaerobic digestion facilities, which covert the organic waste to energy and fertilizer.

“Harvest Power’s collaboration with The Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott Orlando, Grande Lakes raises the bar of sustainable resource management,” said Chris Peters, Harvest Power regional vice president. “We see the hospitality industry quickly shifting to offer increased recycling, and are proud to be able to provide this service to area hotels and restaurants.”

Grande Lakes Orlando, which features a 582-room Ritz-Carlton hotel and a deluxe 1,000 room JW Marriott hotel, currently composts its organic waste.
