The 70th NBA All-Star Game was held on March 7, 2021, and it was the first-ever zero-waste event in its history.
The Atlanta Hawks and State Farm Arena hosted four events in a single day instead of over a weekend, as it has been in the past. The Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHaRM), the City of Atlanta Sustainability Ambassadors program, Levy Restaurants and Pritchard Sports & Entertainment, assisted the Hawks in diverting 97% of fan-generated waste. Rubicon's platform was utilized for collecting and hauling materials, creative solutions for recycling various materials and operational support.
In this special episode of Stef Talks Trash, Editorial Director Stefanie Valentic interviews Sofi Armenakian, director of operations and sustainability for the Atlanta Hawks and State Farm Arena.
