For the past few years, Toronto-based Henderson Brewing Company has been using milk crates to transport and display the beer it sells at its downtown location. This has helped the company cut packaging use by more than 10,000 cases.

And now the company is also using milk crates in its new home-delivery program, made possible by new rules put in place by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. Within a few days of the pilot program’s launch, more than 50 crates had been ordered through Henderson’s online store.

“Not only does it reduce waste, but it saves us money and they’re easier to move around and stack,” notes general manager Steve Himel. In another move toward sustainability, the company recently added an electric vehicle to its delivery fleet—and commits to going 100% electric by 2024.
