San Diego Research Groups Receive $16 Million to Study Battery Recycling

The U.S. Department of Energy recently designated $74 million from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to excel battery recycling in the United States.

The cost of virgin lithium for batteries has increased by 13 times in the past two years, leaving manufacturers looking for alternative material sources.

UC San Diego received $10 million of the funding, which it will use to develop and scale tech for battery recycling.
