Pasco County abruptly closed three of its recycling sites in the western part of the county in January.
Now, about two months later, the county plans to bring them back - at a $35,000 price tag.
Up to 100 tons of recycling goes through Pasco County Solid Waste and Resource Recovery Department each week. About five ro seven tons of that came from the three recycling sites that were removed.
The department says over the years, illegal dumping had become a major problem, and about half of what was going into the containers was hazardous material like biomedical waste. That dumping was causing public safety concerns.
