After reports that the city of Clearwater, Florida had failed to recycle any materials it has collected, the FBI has reached out to Clearwater officials to help in the investigation.

Interim City Manager Jennifer Poirrier can’t confirm if the FBI is conducting its own investigation or what elements it would be looking into.

“It was unexpected but I’m supportive. We want to know as much as possible about this and what happened,” said Poirrier, “we would not shy away from any assistance in terms of helping us put together the pieces.”

Poirrier first discovered the recycling issues after noticing the city’s waste department had failed to take the materials to the waste management processing plant in Tampa, instead the recyclables had been taken to the Pinellas County Solid Waste Disposal Complex with all the other trash.
